Baby SMT has arrived!

Family and Friends-

We are very excited to announce that Savannah Madelyn arrived on July 15 at 8:17 pm. At birth she was 19.25 inches and 7 lbs 2 oz. As you can see from the pictures below, she has a lot of dark hair. Her hair does have some highlighting to it though, so we are curious to see if it changes color. In true Shannah's-child-style, she had long fingernails at birth. She is doing wonderfully and should come home with Mom tomorrow.

We apologize it has taken us a few days to get the word around, but we have waited to be able to send more complete information as Savannah had some complications during delivery. Savannah inhaled some meconium (baby stool) shortly before she was born, so we only got to spend a few minutes with her after delivery before a pediatrician and perinatologist took her to the nursery for blood testing and a chest x-ray. They began a series of treatments that involved extra oxygen and antibiotics and unfortunately kept her under close supervision in the nursery, not with us. Each day she has shown signs of improvement, so we were soon able to visit her, and then we were able to hold and Shannah could nurse her, and now we have her in our hospital room with us. We spoke with the perinatologist recently and he said she should be able to leave tomorrow. Shannah will formally be discharged today, but the hospital permits a mother to stay extra as a "courtesy mom" in order to stay with her baby. Skyler has been able to stay with them thus far (his bar review class ended on Tuesday, so he is studying on his own now), but may have to go home tonight and pick them up tomorrow. We have been very grateful for the attentiveness and friendliness of the doctors, nurses and staff here at the hospital.
