3 years...

Washington Reception

We had a great anniversary on Tuesday. It was wonderful to be able to celebrate without either of us worrying about final exams or work of any sort. The day was full of relaxing and enjoying our time together. Skyler woke up to a delicious German Pancake breakfast in bed. We spent the morning tidying things up and crafting our surprises for one another.

What a handsome man.

In the evening we went out to dinner at Madeline's--a restaurant we have both wanted to try since coming here, but have saved for a special event. It was delicious! I enjoyed the rack of lamb while Skyler savored his stuffed pork chop (no, we are not--nor ever will we be--vegetarians). After our nice dinner out we attended one of the free opera concerts at Cornell. At BYU we frequented many cultural events on our dates so this was a nice way to spend our evening together. We are both happy to say that we still enjoy spending two hours at dinner, just the two of us, and can appreciate a "night on the town" even more than we did 3 years ago.

It was as delicious as it was beautiful.

Lastly, we watched our wedding video. This is actually the first anniversary that we have had it, so it was a special time to enjoy remembering the special occasion and the feelings of anticipation we had at the time, knowing that we would soon be embarking on this chapter of our lives.

Now we are embarking in a new chapter, no more school and starting a family. What a great three years it has been!

Baby book story...

I know no one other than my mom really cares about my baby book woes, but my mom does care so I am going to write about it. Plus it is a story about beating the system--I love beating the system.

People keep saying, "Oh, you will have to put that in your baby book" or "Make sure you get a baby book"--this totally threw me. I didn't even think about getting a baby book. Aren't scrapbooks enough? But let's face it, I am not going to have time to scrapbook when little Savannah is around. So I told Skyler that I think I needed to get a baby book before the baby shower so I can have good documentation of the event and all. Skyler said, "Great idea, you'll probably need about $30 for that, right?" I was flabbergasted. I was assuming that a baby book would be no more than $15. Well, he was right and I was wrong.

I had a picture in my head of the book I wanted. It was pink, of course, and classy and modern and fun--pretty much, non-existent I found out. Ithaca didn't help my cause. There was nothing in any of the stores that I liked. So I turned to trusty ol' Amazon.com. Still nothing less than $40. Then I found babysakes.com--I was thrilled with the selection. But the prices + shipping were out of my range. So I thought that I would use them to find what I wanted and then search the internet for better deals. I fell in love with two different books. One was in my price range, before shipping.

After spending too much time online, I found out that I couldn't find the book I wanted anywhere because it is brand-spankin' new, fresh from the UK-affiliated company. Just my luck. I had to like the fancy-shmancy one--that wasn't even all that fancy anyway. But, I hate to be cheated, and I hate it when I don't have a selection of competitive prices. So I got really bugged and decided to wait it out and hope that ebay or amazon would come through for me. But who was I kidding, with shipping time I didn't have much of a choice, and plus I hate waiting things out. So I did what any annoying consumer would do. I called the publishing company of the book that I wanted and I asked them to give me a better deal. And guess what? They did. They told me their price of the book--$5 less than the website I found, and then they offered cheaper shipping because they are based in Brooklyn rather than Timbuktu. I am now a happy consumer that saved myself $10 because I wasn't going to be cheated by some fancy web boutique.

Really...?!

I am at home today because I have somehow managed to catch a bit of a cold despite my best efforts. For fear of getting a bad cold I am lounging and resting today with just the start of a cold. From what I have heard being pregnant with a cold is pretty miserable, so I would like to avoid the miserable part. Anyway, that is just a lead in to explain why I would be wasting my time with such things as I am about to admit to doing...

The link recommendation on my gmail account was to a Ralph Lauren Polo sale. No, my wardrobe does not include a single piece of RL product, but I was tempted, so I looked. I quickly avoided the womens section as the women are stick-thin, and it didn't seem like the healthiest thing for a pregnant woman to look at, and I went directly to the baby clothes...uh oh. They were cute! Super cute. I love polo shirts, and one might assume I get this from Skyler, and you would be right. He loves polos too. Of course I use polos in the lightest sense as we don't own any real "polos".

I think it would be adorable to have a family pic of the three of us in different summer polos and this website fed that idea. But does an infant really need a polo dress that is on sale for $37?! Originally $50. I will quickly check back into reality and take a look at the Walmart and Target websites, but I must admit, I had fun!


They also had cashmere sweaters for only....$100. I better own a cashmere sweater before Savannah does.
